The War for North America April 16, 2025

Britain and France fought a series of wars that raged around the globe in what were in all but name the first world wars. Fought for various reasons with different names they were all a contest to see who would be supreme as the preeminent power in Europe and as a consequence as the leading colonial power. These wars lasted with several breaks from 1689 to 1763 only to be renewed later on in the Napoleonic Wars.
When the Imperial government began levying taxes directly, the colonials and their assemblies promptly complained and petitioned for a redress of grievances. When they refused to pay, the Imperial government sent tax collectors and customs agents. When they attacked these agents of the crown the government sent troops. When the colonials began to stockpile weapons and drill militia the troops marched and so a brewing crisis in the colonies would spell the end of the first British Empire.
