The Shifting Shadows of Our Lives July 16, 2025

What is here and now,

is merely,

what is here and now.

Like distorted images

we see in a cracked carnival mirror,

or the mirage

of an oasis in the desert

the shifting fog of history

surrounding us

is but a pale representation,

of God’s reality.

Our lives

are no more permanent,

than the shadow of a cloud

drifting over a landscape

it did not create,

on its way

to an appointment never seen

that’s always over the horizon.

In “Treat Them Gently” S5 / E12 of I Took a Right Turn : Begins with some remarks concerning how we learn from others and how we share more in common than we have in differences.  Next, they play some of our old favorites: I’ve Been RedeemedPraise the Name of Jesus, and We Exalt Thee.  Then we share another of our homegrown songs: The Book, The Blood, and the Blessed Hope. Turning to the Bible we stay in Romans for another week opening up to 14:1 which tells us how we are to treat other believers. When we compromise with the world, we may find rewards in the natural but in the spirit all we find is confusion and strife.

We shouldn’t be content just knowing what God has done or what He is doing, let’s dig deeper and find out why He does what He does.  It’s called love.

The path to God is narrow and steep, few find it and fewer follow it.  The path of the world is broad and smooth and many dance and parade their way to hell.

Growing Old July 9, 2025

Days rush by

and then they’re gone.

Dust in the wind,

flowers in bloom,

a joy filled sunny day.

Every other day,

seems like a Friday,

with a Monday in-between.

Days rush by

and then they’re gone.

A wise man once said,

“Growing old is not for the faint of heart.”

One moment,

you’re the youngest one in the crowd.

Suddenly,

you’re the oldest person in the room.

Defiantly we say,

“I can’t respect someone just because they’re old!”

Then we wonder why,

“These kids,”

don’t show us any respect.

In “Get the Best of Evil by Doing Good” S5 / E11 of I Took a Right Turn: We open with the usual banter and greetings.  Next, they play some good old church songs: River of Life, Everywhere He Went, and Put Your Hand In the Hand of the Man From Galilee.  Then they share another of their homegrown songs: Hello Jesus.  Turning to the Bible we dive into Romans 12:9-21 which speaks to us about holy living and the power that has over everything around us.  Robert moves on to read the poem “

Growing Old,” from his second book of Poetry, Floating Through Time.  Each episode this season includes a poem from this book.
