There’s a Reason May 7, 2025

Life,

it can seem so long.

Do right,

and don’t do wrong.

Cause nothing,

brings it back once it is gone.

Have you ever,

lived your life so hard,

that winning,

wasn’t in the cards,

and everything you had

sorta slipped away?

There’s a reason for our breathing.

Gods got something for us to do,

He could have left us instead He blessed us,

now He’s waiting on me and you.

To tell the story of His glory

how He saved us and brought us through.

It’s not our fitness it’s our witness,

that’s the job we’re supposed to do.

I want to give,

all I have to give,

for this life that I live

is nothing, but a gift from God.

I want to do,

all I’m called to do,

And be,

all I’m called to be,

and see,

if it makes a difference

in this land.

There’s a reason for our breathing.

Gods got something for us to do,

He could have left us instead He blessed us,

now He’s waiting on me and you.

To tell the story of His glory

how He saved us and brought us through.

It’s not our fitness it’s our witness,

that’s the job we’re supposed to do.

In “A Parable and What it Means” S5  E2 of I Took a Right Turn:The Podcast opens with us asking for prayer for Rosalie.  Besides on-going health issues, she is currently battling a severe cold.  But being a real trooper, she is here she is playing and singing for God’s glory.  We open by playing play a couple of old songs: It’s a New Wine, The Latter Rain, and He Touched Me.  Then we share one of our homegrown songs: There’s a Reason.  Opening the Bible to Luke 11:5-13 and we read one of Christ’s parables and explore what it means.  Next Robert reads the first poem “There’s a Reason” from his Second book of Poetry, Floating Through Time.  Each episode this season includes a reading from this book.

The text of these readings is posted the day after the release of each episode at www.itookarighturn.com and www.drrobertowens.com  All of Robert’s thirty-nine books are available in paper back and kindle through Amazon.  We also invite everyone to visit our online art store, The Pair a Docs Shop where we offer our original paintings, prints and merchandise.

Floating Through Time – Introduction April 30, 2025

What is poetry?

Is it merely alliteration, imagery, rhyme, rhythm, sound, stanzas, tone, and meter?

Or is it something shimmering between reality and realization?  Is it the charismatic sister of prose encapsulating enchantment bringing substance to that which is known intuitively?

Often people ask me, “How long does it take to write a book?”

No matter what my answer; one year, two years, twenty-five years this book, my second published book of poetry, took the longest.

I first started writing poetry before I ever heard of poetry.  There are poems in this book that I wrote while in grade school and there are poems in this book that I wrote in 2024.  Therefore, in the case of this book it took more than sixty odd years.

Touching on everything from religion, to whimsey, the offerings in this book are meant to entertain, enlighten, and amuse.

I don’t claim to be a Kipling, an Emerson, a Cummings, or a Ginsberg.  All I can say of myself as a poet is that from an early age I felt as if I had to write, or I’d explode.

Poetry was the first vehicle of expression I was able to drive down the road of life.  While I have since added other vehicles to my fleet …

When the stars are blinking

through the trees

and the wind is singing in the leaves,

I find my meaning rhyming,

No matter the timing

Like a ship tossed in translucent seas.

What else can I say that hasn’t been said.
