In “Fooling Yourself” S5 / E 71 of I Took a Right Turn: We open up talking about the weather here in the Promised Land, we’re moved out from under what our weatherman has promised is this summer’s last Heat Dome with extreme heat and humidity. And now the Latter Rains have come. It’s been raining for a few days, and it is predicted to rain every day for the next week. The other night we got 7.5 inches of rain which is extreme for our environment. We know others experience much more than that all the time, but what is normal in one place is unusual in another.
We then talk about praying for the lost and allowing God to guide into a deeper relationship with Him. We ask for prayers and remind people they can send their prayer requests to us through our website itookarighturn.com.
Our musical portion of the podcast begins with a rousing song we picked up from services at Family Worship Center; the home church of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries Got Any Rivers. We follow that with an old song that has blessed generations of believers and led multitudes to Christ, Jesus Got aholda My Life. Then comes a song that came to us from our time with R. W. Schambach following the Canvas Cathedral along the Sawdust Trail, Hallelujah Anyhow. This is a song which if we can keep it in our heart will help us whenever we feel as if the battle is too hard or the road too steep. Finally, we share another of our homegrown songs, one that was inspired by a time when we were conducting a Revival at Norther Arizona University, I Was a Dreamer.
Looking into God’s Holy Word we turn to Galatians 6. Robert is highlighting verse three but starting off in verse one. Here we learn about forgiveness and the practical side of doing onto others what we would have others do onto us.

We finish the music with another of our homegrown songs: Be Ready. Opening God’s holy Word, we examine at I Corinthians 1:7-9 where Paul tells us that we have all we’ll ever need to follow God. Robert then reads another poem from his second book of poetry, Floating Through Time, “Changes Two.” Each episode this season includes a poem from this book.

In “Why Did He Come?” S5 / E35 of I Took a Right Turn: First up is a discussion of current events in the Promised Land including the weather report. The songs we share are made to fit the season, Christmas all the way: Go Tell it on the Mountain an African American spiritual song and Christmas carol which was derived from oral traditions. It was first printed in an early-1900s compilation of African American folk songs. Another song that’s a staple of Christmas was originally in Latin known as “Adeste Fideles,” the earliest printed version is in a book dating to 1751. In 1841, it was first translated into English as “O Come All Ye Faithful.” Our final cover song expresses the uniqueness of Jesus, There is None Like You. We finish up the musical portion of the Podcast with one of our home-grown songs. As a song writer I always wanted to write a Christmas song. God finally answered my prayers this year and wouldn’t you know it He answered it with a song that fits perfectly into my style as a song writer, A Hymn for Him. Turning to the Bible, we look at John 4:14 and II Corinthians 5:19 wherein Paul speaks to us about why Jesus came and what that advent really means. Robert then reads another poem from his second book of poetry, Floating Through Time, “It’s a Bridge.” Each episode this season includes a poem from this book. The Great Plains Indians April 9, 2025

The storied life of the Great Plains Indian nations is filled with contradictions. In the imagination of today it is easy to imagine the unsullied and pristine life of the nomadic Plains tribe, following the buffalo and secure in the vastness of their isolated terrain. Our minds eye is shaped as much by Hollywood as by history if not more so. The reality is that without the influence of the white man the life of the Great Plains tribes never would have existed at all. Their nomadic life was dependent upon the vast buffalo herds from which they derived every essential of life from clothes to food to fuel for their fires. Yet their ability to follow the herds and to efficiently hunt them depended upon the horse and the horse was introduced into North America by the Spaniards.
The French were convinced that they were almost across the continent and that just a little way further on they would find the Pacific and the long-sought way to China. Because of this they continued to try and beat the British to the west following the trading paths with their various allies ever deeper into the northern plains.
Along the way they made the same type of mistake they had made in the east. Just as they had allowed an alliance with the Huron to drag them into perpetual war with the five nations, so they allowed their alliance with the Cree to lead them into a war of revenge with the Lakota. Their tactic of greater involvement in Indian affairs here proved to be a major weakness when compared to the strength gained by the British and their system of waiting for the Indians to come to them.

Then we play another of our homegrown songs: Playing in Daddy’s Throne Room. In the Bible study this week we investigate I Corinthians 13:12. Looking at the illustration Paul uses of the human body and the Church. In these passages we look at freedom of choice and the responsibility it brings.
