Here We Are May 10, 2021

For sixty years I’ve tried to warn people that unless we as Americans woke up and started paying attention our listing ship of state was going to crash into the iceberg of socialist authoritarianism.  I held up the freedom and the uniqueness of our Republic, the equality it proclaimed, the prosperity it produced, and the liberty it protected.  I extoled, cajoled, and foretold the coming of this long dark winter of our discontent.  I tried to use reason, satire, and sarcasm and yet … here we are. 

Fifty years of Cold War destroyed the Soviet Union. Twenty-nine years of victory destroyed the United States.  All of our bravado, bluster, and hubris has accomplished is to make the post-Stalinist Nikita Khrushchev, “The Butcher of the Ukraine” into a prophet.  He told us several things long years ago that we Cold Warriors laughed off as the rantings of a homicidal megalomaniac.  Now they sound like a fire bell clanging in the night or the mournful peal for whom the bell tolls.  Here are a few things Stalin’s clown, JFK’s nemesis, and our blood-soaked communist Jerimiah told us:   

  • “You Americans are so gullible. No, you won’t accept communism outright, but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you’ll finally wake up and find you already have communism. We won’t have to fight you. We’ll so weaken your economy until you’ll fall like overripe fruit into our hands.”  
  • “We do not have to invade the United States, we will destroy you from within.”   
  • “The United States will eventually fly the Communist red flag…The American people will hoist it themselves.”   

And as if pulling a page from the secret plan of the Masters of the Universe, he also said, “The press is our chief ideological weapon.”  

I have spent decades blowing the trumpet.  Many others have stood upon the wall and warned us that the enemy of freedom was already within the gates.  Over and over America has been warned.  And after all of that, the center has broken, the citadel has fallen, and according to the woke world rising all around us, we are now the barbarians within the gates. 

So much for the chimera of reality that is the material world.  What is here and now is merely what is here and now.  Like distorted images we see in a cracked carnival mirror or the mirage of an oasis in the desert the shifting fog of history surrounding us is but a pale representation of God’s reality.  The lying spirit of this world tries to tell us all truth is relative.  The Spirit of Truth tells us, “… you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” 

Now for the rest of the story. 

For forty years I’ve been shouting this from the rooftops, “Jesus Christ is Lord!”  All the rest, everything is just window dressing.  This is the only truth that really matters.  For as the old saying goes, “All things will pass, only those things done in Christ will last.”   

The politics of this world are as fruitless as a dog chasing its tail.  We’re gazing at our navel, rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, enjoying a first-class seat on the Hindenburg.  We’re investing our attention on things that perish with the using and have no eternal significance at all.  I’m as guilty as anyone else.  I’ve expended much of my thought, energy, and writing skills trying to preserve the freedom and liberty we’ve enjoyed here in America and yet … here we are.  I wonder now if I ever encouraged even one person to turn off the game, set down the bear, and look at the shell game Ponzi scheme policies our elected leaders have used to herd us into the socialist corral? 

I just can’t do it anymore.  I can no longer spend the majority of my time on the minor things of life.  I will devote my life to holding out the only hope there is for humanity, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  As Paul presents it, “… that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures …” which leads to the ultimate gift of God, salvation, “… that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” 

That’s it.  There are no Herculean tasks to accomplish.  You don’t have to meticulously follow some prearranged path of prayer or works.  Or, as the Word tells us, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast …”  It’s all Him.  He does it all.  It’s His sheer unmerited favor that opens the door, and it’s His faith that makes it possible for us to believe.  And once we are saved, we have an assignment.  We are to be His witnesses

I once was a sinner, lost and alone.  I rejected God and served only my own passions and lust.  Then Christ revealed Himself to me through His Holy Word.  He touched me and made me whole.  He gave me a new life, a Proverbs 31 wife, and a mission.  That mission is to share what He has done for me with you. 

And unlike my fruitless toiling in the fields of political punditry it will bring a harvest.  “A farmer went out to sow his seed.  As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.  Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil.  It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.  But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.  Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.  Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”  A harvest is promised and a harvest there will be. 

You see even though most will ignore this trumpet call just as they ignored the one trying to save the great experiment that was the United States, I am assured that some will choose the right way, “For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”  Another promise, a few will find it.  The Word says it, I believe, and that’s it.  After false starts, wasted efforts, and misguided attempts … here we are.

Let Us be the Generation April 12, 2021

It wasn’t part of God’s original plan for humans to rule over other humans.  He created us to have fellowship with Him.  We were created in His image.  However, all that got fouled up when Eve listened to the serpent and Adam followed Eve into disobedience which severed the bond between God and humanity. 

Lucifer became the god of this age and humanity started its long and dismal effort to return to God on our own terms.  First, we tried to build a tower to heaven.  When that didn’t work, we began inventing religion after religion all based on works.  We sought to climb a stairway to heaven made of rules, traditions, sacrifices, and ceremonies.  Nothing worked.  All we ever managed to do was subjugate some people to others who may have pretended to know the way but always knew in their hearts they didn’t even know where they were let alone know where they were going. 

Just as in religion man’s original and metastasizing sin led to the oppression of the masses by self-anointed elites, so too in the secular realm. Since we refused to let God lead us humanity has been set upon like sheep by the ravenous wolves of conquest, heredity, and whoever the nameless faceless bureaucracy belches up.  All hail the leaders of men! 

Might makes right plus time and traditions equal legitimacy.  For the vast expanse on human history emperors, empresses, kings, queens, lords, and ladies have run rough shod over the powerless bodies and lives of we the people.  A few tiny sparks shined for moments in the darkness.  Several of the city states of ancient Greece and the early Roman Republic presented a façade of republican freedom sitting atop slave populations like a beautiful laminate over worm rotted wood.  With these few exceptions the history of humanity until 1776 was one long parade of human degradation at the hands of powerful elites above reproach and beyond control.   

Since that watershed moment when the American Revolution lit a flame of freedom that sent sparks in all directions a flickering light of individual freedom, personal liberty, and economic independence burns like a lonely candle in a very dark cave.  Today that candle is sputtering in an ill wind promising to blow no one any good. 

The valiant attempt by we the people to carve out a space of the free exercise of those unalienable rights endowed by our creator founded the world’s first nation dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.  And what this led to and what it requires of us was summed up well by President Reagan, “If we look to the answer as to why for so many years we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on earth, it was because here in this land we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before. Freedom and the dignity of the individual have been more available and assured here than in any other place on earth.  The price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price.” 

We have recently experienced a dramatic change in America’s direction.   

In February of 2020 President Trump was unassailable.  The strongest economy in memory, the triumphs of peace in the Mideast, the winding down of the forever wars, coupled with finally gaining control of our southern border had him cruising to re-election.   

Then in March the only non-politician outsider ever elected president allowed hysterical doomsayers to convince him to shut down the economy over a new type of flu which the CDC now says, “if you have the virus between the ages of 0 to 70, you have a 99% survival rate. And if you’re over 70, the survival rate is nearly 95%.”  This gave blue swing states the opportunity to unconstitutionally change election laws opening a pandora’s box of Chicago-style voting procedures and counting techniques resulting in the election of Place-holder Joe Biden and the President-in-Waiting Kamala Harris, the restoration of the establishment.  And thus, the wildcard win for the populists and their in-your-face leader was beaten back by the power of corporate money, media, and lemmings at the polls. 

Prediction: With the final passage of HR 1 and its companion S 1, or as our tongue-in-cheek Congress call it the “For the People Act of 2019” President Harris will win the election of 2024 by the biggest landslide in America.  She may even carry all 52 states.  And that long dark winter President Biden promised during his mail-it-in campaign will fall like the polar vortex over what was once the land of the free and the home of the brave. 

One leader is gone, and people are no longer terrified by his mean old tweets.  A new leader has left his basement in Delaware and is shuffling around in the White House signing whatever is put in front of him and answering preapproved questions from notes.  We’re all once again safe and secure in the arms of the perpetually re-elected and their civil service nomenklatura with their life-time sinecure, top-shelf benefits, and golden parachute retirements.  The terrible orange man is gone, and mediocracy once again settles like a fog over Moscow on the Potomac.  

There are basically two types of leaders.  Those who use people for their own interests and those who sacrifice themselves for the interests of the people.  The first type represents worldly authority, the second godly. 

The Pharoah in the story of the Exodus is the archetype of a worldly leader.  He was willing to let his whole nation be destroyed even up to the death of the first born of every family just to preserve his own power and privilege.  In this same biblical story Moses is the shining example of godly leadership.  As the Israelites wandered through the desert, they rejected and resisted Moses.  Yet Moses loved the people so much he offered to give his own life to appease the wrath of God so that they might live.   

Today this kind of godly leadership is based on the example of Christ.  Paul tells us in Philippians what Christ sacrificed to lead us into eternity: 

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  

Or as Matthew tells us, “And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” 

Worldly leadership is all about the leader.  Grasping for and holding on to power is not just the main goal, it’s the only goal.  For the worldly, leadership is an opportunity for self-aggrandizement and profit.   

For the godly it’s an opportunity for self-sacrifice and service. 

President Trump, who made his money building things, changing the skylines of cities around the world, running multitudes of businesses, and employing thousands of people lost more than a billion dollars while serving as America’s leader.  By contrast, President Biden, Middle Class Joe, who has worked for the government his entire adult life or cashed in on the benefits of doing so is worth approximately nine million dollars. 

The Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan left us some wisdom that might help us gain a perspective of where we stand. 

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” 

You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We’ll preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we’ll sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.” 

If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth.” 

I believe with all my heart that standing up for America means standing up for the God who has so blessed our land. We need God’s help to guide our nation through stormy seas. But we can’t expect Him to protect America in a crisis if we just leave Him over on the shelf in our day-to-day living.” 

Let us strive not to be the generation that dropped the torch.  Instead let us be the generation that turned back to God so He would heal our land.
