Words have meaning. A word is a unit of language, consisting of one or more spoken sounds or their written representation that functions as a principal carrier of meaning. Rush Limbaugh is a master of the English language in my opinion on a par with Winston Churchill and is the undisputed American master of quips, labeling, and metaphors.
As if to prove the point, Rush has once again coined a phrase that sums up a cultural phenomenon. He has dubbed those Progressives embedded within the federal bureaucracy the Deep State. This label perfectly describes those protected by the civil service acts as well as those political appointees who might be termed BHO holdovers.
The commentary flowing from the Attila the Hun Chair through the golden microphone recently shines a spotlight on the fact that the Praetorian Guard of the establishment are working overtime to overthrow the results of the recent election.
There is something reminiscent of Yogi Berra’s famous “Déjà vu all over again” in all of this. It reminds me of the last president who was vocal about trying to drain the swamp. Richard Nixon set out to reform the alphabet soup of agencies that supposedly provide the government with intelligence. It turned into a game of who gets who first. The entire Watergate debacle was populated by ex-CIA and ex-FBI agents. The CIA reports were withheld from everyone until the deed had been done, a president overthrown, and everyone involved safely out with the usual federal golden parachute of a plumb pension with a Cadillac package.
To catch lightening in a jar and see how this was all engineered and orchestrated see the seminal book The Silent Coup by Len Colodny and Robert Gettlin. This is the only book that tells the other side of the Watergate myth.
If you consume the bilge being belched out by the ABCCBSNBCCNNMSNBC Cartel you would think that our president was attempting to establish a rule by decree imperial presidency. That is what we have had for the last eight years. That is what he was elected to replace with a government that governs as opposed to rule. And that is what the Deep State is trying their best to avoid. A government of the people, by the people, and for the people is as about as far from what we have had as you can get. That is what we voted for. That is what our President is trying to deliver and that is what the preprogrammed, prepaid protestors with their fill-in-the-blank signs are trying to prevent.
However you call it; the Country Party versus the Government Party, the Perpetually Re-elected Versus the Flyover Country, or Them versus Us it all adds up to one thing a nation divided.
Leave it to Rush to coin a name for that twin headed bird of prey, the government party of power, the Fusion Party. These are two gangs of political hacks plundering the producers of this country bound together by their contempt for us and their greed. They are bound and determined that they will not allow any motley collection of voters get between them and their swag.

As a Professor of History I can understand why most people dismiss History as boring. It is usually presented as a static jumble of dates, names and events that must be memorized, regurgitated and with luck forgotten. I have often marveled at the ability of students who can tell me how many points their favorite athlete scored in a mid-season game ten years ago or how many horsepower their favorite driver had under the hood five seasons back can’t seem to remember the relationship or the difference between the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution.
Instead of this rigid collection of repetitious minutia, History is a dynamic flow of reality that changes every day. Not only is there more of it every day, thus changed by addition, it is also open to new interpretation and comprehension every day, thus changing by multiplication and division.
In Patrick J. Buchanan’s ground breaking book Churchill, Hitler and the Unnecessary War the author presents the case that the Second World War was not precipitated by Germany’s attack upon Poland it was instead precipitated by the worthless guarantee given by Britain and France to an authoritarian Poland, which prevented it from avoiding war by returning the German city of Danzig to Germany. A move even Neville Chamberlain thought would be fair. Then when what would have been the fourth partition of Poland between Germany and the Soviet Union did occur it is forgotten by all that it was France and Britain that declared war on Germany not the reverse. No matter whether you agree or disagree with this presentation of the same facts presented in opposite order as in American History classes or not, anyone would admit at least it made you think.
Rush Limbaugh catapulted from being a self-admitted multiple failure to being the greatest broadcaster in the history of radio by doing nothing more than as he often repeats, “What comes naturally.” He says what so many others think. He aptly sums up the collective observations of millions and acts as a prism for the sensibilities of the here-to-for silent majority. Performing his host duties 99.8% perfectly, Rush gives voice to the common sense and inherent belief that if you work hard and play by the rules you should prosper. He points out the hypocrisy of leaders leading people where they don’t want to go and the frustration of followers who know they’ve been had but don’t know how to out organize the organizers.
Glenn Beck, after decades in the trenches, shot like a meteor to the top by realizing his position wasn’t just to have fun it could instead really mean something at a pivotal time in History. The morning zoo became the people’s think tank as we watched Glenn learn the difference between Socialism, Communism and National Socialism. We cheered as he kept his sense of humor while holding aloft the torch of individual freedom in a world swirling down the collectivist drain. His television show has transformed the afternoon blah hour into the University of Beck as he and his chalk boards do what all of the teachers and professors have failed to do: make the average American interested in History. Glenn’s greatest service may turn out to be his impartation of the knowledge that “You are not alone,” which sparked the 9-12 movement and launched the tea parties. Or it might yet be that an informed electorate will not go quietly into that dark night.
History is often the chosen discipline of those who seek order in a world they find confusing. A system or frame upon which to place the events of time avoiding the yawning maw of random oblivion. A way to bring meaning and importance not only to the Battle of Waterloo but to our own personal Waterloos, which may be a symbol of defeat but is also the symbol of victory still celebrated as a holiday marking liberation by everyone but the French.
As a Professor of History I’ve studied, taught and written for years hoping to make some contribution to the historical literacy of my generation. I’ve long believed it’s the lack of a historical perspective that’s doomed our generation to walk through the looking-glass into a wonderland where none dare call it treason to subvert individual liberty in the name of collective security. Now I have found the lens which brings the fog of current events into the focus of historical understanding. The key which unlocks the meaning of seemingly random events uncovering a pattern discernable and comprehensible to all who will follow the chain of events to their logical conclusion.
Our overly centralized nationalist government, though limited at its inception, has grown through the accretion of time and tradition ultimately becoming that which it was never meant to be: a colossus standing with its steel boot upon the throat of freedom.

President Obama promised the most transparent administration in history. He pledged all bills would be posted online for five days before he signed them. Turns out that only applied to NON-emergency bills, and everything is an emergency in our swiftly transforming America. As Rom Emanuel, President Obama’s closest adviser says, “never let a serious crisis go to waste.”
The first bill he signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which must have been an emergency since it didn’t qualify for the five day guarantee. We had to pass the pork-laden stimulus bill before the Best-Congress-Money-Can-Buy could even read it, let alone post it online, otherwise unemployment might reach the unacceptable 8% range; though most of the provisions wouldn’t kick in for months or years, but that was an emergency. Another bill too big to read is America’s Affordable Health Choices Act, which fails to insure the uninsured and doesn’t slow the rising rates, which are the two things it was supposedly designed to accomplish. And even though most of the provisions won’t overwhelm us until after the next presidential election it was an emergency. Adding insult to injury, after saying “There has never been a more open process,” Nancy Pelosi crafted the health care take-over behind doors closed so tight they’ve been called an iron curtain. Eventually she had the nerve to say “we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it…”
The American tradition was built upon the idea of limited and dispersed powers, and under the Constitution neither the people, nor the states, nor the federal government was given absolute power or complete sovereignty. Behind the veil of silence, mockery and misstatements, and continuing a trend that has gone on through the reigns of many imperial presidents, the Obama administration is accumulating more power than any previous administration in American History.
Now the usual suspects are calling for the censorship of the media under the guise of protecting us all from hate speech. After years of congressional blockade in the 1990s and presidential vetoes in the 21st century current Progressive CABAL has resurrected Ted Kennedy’s Hate Crimes law which now hangs like a shroud on the body politic. These types of laws have been used in Europe and Canada to criminalize opinion and squelch any who don’t repeat the catch phrases, which pass for free speech in the Progressive’s mental gulag.
Mark Lloyd Diversity Czar at the FCC seeks to gain greater control of broadcasting with the aim of curtailing the daily drip-drip of conservative commentary by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. In cyber space Net Neutrality is nothing but the patently unfair Fairness Doctrine for the Internet. Political correctness has taken its toll of the spoken word. We no longer know what to call anyone in this day of hyphenated-America and fractionalized interest groups when what is politically correct changes with the winds of doctrine. The fairness police choke freedom out of speech using peer pressure while the administration tries to malign and marginalize the only network that isn’t acting as a fax service for their press releases. This isn’t exactly what I envisioned when I heard that pledge to be the most transparent administration in history. It’s more like the smoke and mirrors that passes for representative government in a one party state like Chicago.
Our Progressive leaders are transparent in one thing: their contempt for the desires of the people. Even though he gave speech after speech trying to explain why we needed to reform our medical system to death the president said people were only against it because they didn’t understand it. Now with the coming financial reform act combined with the previous take-over of auto and insurance brings a larger percentage of the American economy under government control than at any other time as poll after poll show the popular sentiment solidly against these acts, but the bills were rammed through anyway. Obama the candidate denounced the Bush Administration as the most secretive in history. The Obama Administration is now denying more Freedom of Information Act requests at a rate 50% above the previous administration. I know we see through a glass darkly, but if this opaque obfuscation is transparency I’d hate to see secrecy. Perhaps secrecy is what you call announcing in advance when and where the next offensive is coming in the shooting wars across the sea.
Those who believe the Constitution is a Living Document they can self-amend at will continue to chip away at the traditional definitions of what it means to be free. In the New-Speak of the transformed America racial quotas aren’t racial discrimination, the take-over of industries are done to save free enterprise and being in charge means it’s always someone else’s fault. If those of us who want to remain free don’t use our remaining freedom to protect our freedom soon it may not be politically correct to even remind people that once we were free.

Half Their Brain Tied Behind Their Back January 18, 2010

Every day to the amazement and delight of more than 20 million people across the fruited plain Rush Limbaugh performs his host duties flawlessly with half his brain tied behind his back. Anyone who has ever spent an objective hour listening to his program knows that Rush has a brain the size of a planet. The Corporations Once Known as the Mainstream Media assure we now have a president who is always the brightest guy in the room instead of one who didn’t have enough brains to tie his shoes.
In addition, with the exception of his Chicago handlers, casino capitalist cronies, and union dons our photogenic president is surrounded by academics eager to implement theories that worked in their labs and computer models with the American people as guinea pigs. The Cavalcade of Czars is filled with the best and brightest liberal education has produced since the Summer of Love. On the Hill Nancy Pelosi rules the house with an iron fist while Harry Reid runs the Senate with parliamentary tricks and his legendary eloquence. Together they preside over the best Congress money can buy. The question is can Alinsky’s dream team fight a war on multiple fronts with half their brain tied behind their collectivist back?
Someone might ask, “What makes you think they are operating with half their brain tied behind their back?” If they aren’t then they aren’t half as smart as they think they are. They may be legends in their own mind and secular saviors of a lost humanism but if what we’ve seen so far is their A game we should exchange the IQ scores for psychological evaluations. Because doing all the wrong things for the right PC reasons only turns into victory in Michael Moore documentaries and on MSNBC.
Let’s look at some particulars. Back in the Dream Time the Hippies used to ask “What if they gave a War and nobody came?” When our first Boomer President took office he elevated this to a national policy. The Islamists declared war on us and he sent in CSI and LA Law instead of Patton and a Band of Brothers. Someone might ask, “How’s that working out for you?” In 1993 we had the first World Trade Center bombing, in 1996 the Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, in1998 the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed and in 2000 the USS Cole was attacked in Yemen.
Enter George II who cruises along keeping Clinton’s counterterrorism chief Richard Clark. 9-11 changed everything. Bush found a bullhorn and told us he heard our cry of anguish and anger and he promised us, “the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!” They did when we invaded Afghanistan knocked down the Taliban and chased Al Qaeda into the wilderness. Then the neo-cons convinced him to invade Iraq squandering the support of the world. Clinton never woke up. George II did but then saw a shiny object and wandered off. However, the last two administrations before the dawn of Re-Made America weren’t operating in a vacuum whistling in the wind hoping a war would just “Go away!”
For political reasons Harry Truman called Korea a police action. This new-speak mind bending never registered with the heroes who fought or the families who sacrificed. It didn’t register with the people or the historians. No one refers to the Korean Police Action. There are no monuments to the Korean Police Action. Everyone knows this was a war.
President Johnson charged into Vietnam promising guns and butter, a war in Asia with guns and a war against poverty with food stamps. America won the War in Vietnam even if the Watergate Congress later threw it away. After multiple trillions of dollars and social decay we now have the same poverty level as when we started. Burying your head in the sand is never a good way to see the path to victory.
During the campaign Mr. Obama promised the troops would come home from the wrong war in Iraq and concentrate on winning the right war in Afghanistan. Now the troops are going into garrison mode in Iraq, the generals are not getting what they say they need in Afghanistan while the enemy has moved to Yemen, Sudan and the Internet. Janet Napolitano, the Homeland Security Secretary never mentioned terrorism in her confirmation hearing instead referring to man-caused disasters. Like police action these verbal gymnastics aren’t fooling anyone.
We aren’t engaged in a debate we’re in a war. Slick talk may win debates but when it comes to wars actions speak louder than words and if our leaders won’t talk the talk how can they possibly walk the walk? While Mr. Obama’s immediate response to disaster abroad is laudable his slow motion response to multiple terrorist attacks on his watch makes it appear as if this smartest of all administrations either just doesn’t get it or they’re fighting a war with half their brain tied behind their back.

Walin and Flailin on Palin November 30, 2009

Sarah Palin made the mistake of being a self-made woman who actually accomplished things in her own right instead of riding her husband’s coattails. She worked next to her husband founding and managing a small business that continues to flourish. She was active in local school and community affairs. She ran for local office serving as a council person and eventually mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. She took on several positions in the state government. She resigned a high office to battle the insiders who had run the state for years. Elected Governor she was soon the most popular governor in America. She accomplished all this without using a family fortune, marrying for money or buying her way into prominence. She achieved position and influence the old fashioned way, she earned it.
Instead of being the cause for celebration among liberals this classic American story of self-improvement and success inspired them to seek the destruction of Governor Palin and her family. Liberal news organizations sent numerous reporters to dig for dirty gold in Alaska while sending no reporters to investigate the Democrat Vice-Presidential candidate. These instigations spawned so many frivolous lawsuits the Governor cited the desire to save Alaska the money wasted investigating these suits as one of the substantial reasons for her resignation. Since then the liberal media has taken every opportunity to malign her and her family. Today the AP alone has assigned eleven reporters to fact-check her new book. They assigned none to fact check Hillary’s. The slander on the left has poured like a torrent over Sarah Palin and her family, maligning her faith, her service, her personal life, her intelligence and all because she dares to be a successful woman who doesn’t toe the liberal party-line.
Justice Clarence Thomas made the mistake of succeeding off the Liberal Plantation. His life story proves that he didn’t need a preferential treatment or a hand-out. He had a successful private practice then served as an Assistant Attorney General. He was the Assistant Secretary of Education, the Chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and a judge on the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. The national broadcast of Justice Thomas’ confirmation hearings was characterized as an electronic lynching as partisan operatives manufactured unsubstantiated tales to besmirch his character.
According to the ideological lexicon of the left women and minorities are supposed to be liberals whether they wear the “D” or the “R.” If they aren’t campaigns of contempt pursue them relentlessly. The power and prejudices of the Liberal Attack Machine are accurately documented by Ann Coulter in her eye-opening book Guilty. So this knee-jerk disdain and malignant reaction against self-starters who succeed without a government program or the good-ole-boy network of the Liberal Establishment does not surprise the informed. It aims its venom not only at politicians and jurists but at all who don’t serve their cause. According to the liberal play-book conservative commentators are slow-witted, hateful, and bigoted by nature and besides they’ve broken the Left’s media monopoly so they too must be squashed.
Rush Limbaugh rendezvoused with destiny in 1987, when under Ronald Reagan the Federal Communications Commission rescinded its patently unfair Fairness Doctrine. This bureaucratic regulation in theory required radio and television stations to provide equal time to both sides of political debates. In practice this meant anyone bold enough to express a conservative view had to provide free air-time for a rebuttal. Liberals weren’t forced to do this since the liberal bureaucrats considered their group-think to be uncontroversial and mainstream. Once the airwaves were freed from this subversion of the First Amendment Limbaugh’s straight-talking common-sense style birthed a loyal following. He’s currently heard on over 600 stations covering and dominating every major market in America. Rush has been continuously vilified by what he calls the State-Run Media. They’ve exaggerated his confessed missteps, slandered him using manufactured quotes and represented his vast following as mind-numbed robots. But no matter how they abuse him he continues to have more fun than a human being should be allowed to have confounding them at every step even with half his brain tied behind his back.
Glenn Beck is the third most listened to radio personality in America and for some strange reason he’s proud of that. He’s an Independent who wages a relentless personal campaign for the preservation of the Constitution and personal freedom. For this Glenn is hated and abused daily by the Liberals in every way. Having a squeaky clean personal life the best they have to throw at him is that he’s overweight.
Michael Savage, uses the bluntness of Patton and the insight of Reagan to highlight the absurdity of the Liberal agenda. He’s the best educated among the major Conservative talk hosts holding two Masters degrees and a PhD and this doctor’s diagnosis is that liberalism is a mental disorder. He’s the only member of the American media ever banned from a Western Nation highlighting the disdain the international liberal establishment has for him and his pro-freedom, pro-capitalist views.
The toxic hatred and obvious double standard of the Liberal Attack Machine makes laughable its oft repeated claims of objectivity. This lock-step discrimination leads to broadside attacks and campaigns of malignant journalism against achievers as highlighted in the walin and flailin on Palin.
